McGovern, who teaches cybersecurity at Mount St. Mary’s University. “Businesses have several considerations when it comes to security, including cost, convenience and time,” McGovern said. “Another factor is making sure everyone is aware of what the security concerns are.” The attacks on major businesses such as Target and JPMorgan Chase resulted in hackers stealing confidential information on millions of customers. The problem creates confusion and a lack of trust from the public for businesses, Sarah Bloom-Raskin, deputy secretary of the U.S. Treasury, said in an address to the Texas Bankers Association in December. She reported that a survey of nearly 10,000 corporations internationally revealed almost 43 million detected cybersecurity incidents in 2014, up nearly 50 percent from 2013.
