The 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas provided the latest technology, hottest gadgets, and sneak peek into the future. Drones, virtual reality, and baby tech toys were far and wide at this year’s four day tech fest. CEOs of top companies, entertainment personalities and those interested in the future of technology were all on hand to experience this wonderful window of coolness. CES is the platform for what consumers will interact with to enhance their everyday lives. The latest TVs to interconnectivity in future cars are displayed with enhancing our futuristic lifestyle.
Some of the top innovations displayed were:
Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent, was on hand to display the SMS Audio Star Wars themed headphones. Mr. Jackson has made a name for himself in the music and movie industry, and now is selling his own line of successful headphones. He has teamed up with Lucasfilm to release a series of Star Wars headphones. Based on his existing Street design, the new line includes Stormtrooper, Rebel Alliance, Boba Fett, and Imperial editions. Die-hard fans are extremely excited for the unique line and early sales projections are through the roof. Headphones range in price from $150 to $300.
Drones were the big deal at CES this year. More than 100 drone companies were in attendance showing every shape and size of the unmanned aerial vehicle. The latest were easier to operate and also included lower pricing than seen in the past. One to look out for is called the Ghost drone. It operates via a smartphone app – Android first, and Apple will come later in the year. Click on a virtual button, up it goes, and then it follows you around while you shoot the scenery down below on your GoPro.
CES was also ruled by over-the-top televisions. HD 1080p is ancient compared to the 4K Ultra HD, with four times the resolution of normal high definition. The 4K televisions have stronger colors and extra pixels for a huge difference than in years past. Several companies such as LG, Sharp and Panasonic displayed 8K prototypes, models with 16 times the resolution of standard HD. Pricing was not discussed for the newer models (many thousands expected) or availability.
This year 20% more floor space was devoted to auto technology than last year. The driverless cars were front and center. Google trots out its model at conferences and Audi showcased a driverless car that went all the way from San Francisco to Las Vegas. You may ask yourself, when will this become a reality and the answer is possibly as early as 2017. The cars will sell for more than $100,000.
Emerging tech was in full force inclusive of robots that greeted attendees and then were able to help them find something. Wireless audio speakers appeared to be spinning in air, along with wearable products, which included back sensors to help strengthen your back, to a sensor to monitor your baby’s temperature. The next great wonder to hit mainstream is the Apple Watch expected in the spring. Only time will tell if consumers are willing to pay the initial $350 price tag.
This spring consumers are in for a wide range of tech gadgets and gizmos that will leave nothing to the imagination. As this innovation intersects with our everyday routines, we will need to decide if this technology is enhancing or inhibiting our lives.
