Surprise police: Man accused of stealing 2 purses from home

A Surprise man was arrested Wednesday in connection with two purses stolen from a Surprise home earlier in the week, police said.

Bobby King, 18, was taken into police custody and faces charges of 2nd degree burglary, property theft and credit card theft, according to Surprise police spokesman Mark Ortega.

An 18-year-old Surprise resident and her mother on Dec. 19 left their purses in their home near Estrella Freeway and Peoria Avenue with the back door unlocked, Ortega said.

When the pair returned their purses were gone.

Three days later, the daughter received a call from her bank saying that her card was used to buy gasoline. She called police who recovered the surveillance video from the gas station near Cotton Lane and Greenway Road.

The man in the video was identified as King, the boyfriend of the daughter’s ex-roommate, Ortega said.

Police found King in his home and he initially claimed he found the credit cards on the street, Ortega said.

After he was taken in for questioning, he admitted to the burglary, Ortega said.

He was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail.
