Business profile: Chime Edwards

Atlanta Free Speech would like to highlight a dedicated young servant to the community, Chime Edwards. Chime is a hair and style video blogger (vlogger) who has been vlogging for the last 4 years. Each day she will post content that is aimed to either inspire or motivate her audience. The content is usually related to natural hair care, spirituality, fashion/style, as well as Chime’s personal confessions.

Through blogging, Chime’s goal is to inspire women to love who they are naturally and to embrace their uniqueness. “I encourage my subscribers to live outside of the box and fully express who they are; no matter how weird it may seem to others. I believe once an individual accepts and loves who they are–nothing can stop them,” said Chime.

Chime is a proud graduate of Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She grew up in the small town of West Point, Mississippi, where crime was almost non-existent. As a result, Chime was allowed to explore everything in her area and was encouraged to let her imagination run wild. She has always been praised for her creativity by her family and feels that her childhood greatly contributed to its development, shaping the woman she is today.

As someone who loves her community, Chime is most passionate about improving the current state of the African American population. “We are a lost people as a whole and it’s reflected mostly in “hoods” across America. Slavery has greatly contributed to the mentality of those in the hood and the impoverished living conditions many are faced to endure,” explains Chime. “Many people have given up and believe there is no hope to improve our current state but I will never throw in the towel. God can change anything.”

Chime’s mentor, Dr. A.J. Stovall, who is the head of the Political Science Department at Rust College, has been a major influence in her life. After taking one of his classes and attending the African American Student Leadership Conference, Chime was introduced to history and many ideas and theories that she had never encountered. It was at this time that she learned what it is “to know thyself,” which can completely change the way you view yourself, your people, and the world around you.

When it comes to motivation and drive, Chime credits her subscribers and followers. “It’s an amazing feeling to know that you are able to help someone improve a certain aspect of their life, no matter how small.” Chime explains that God has also been a major influence in her life. “God is my motivator. I know that He has a purpose for my life and this is my calling.”
