The hacktivist collective know as Anonymous has published a Christmas video message, in which it issues a national surveillance warning to the tune of the well-known carol Santa Clause is Coming to Town . The video shows people dressed as Santa with wires and clipboards, representing members of the US National Security Agency (NSA), spying on people in Guy Fawkes masks – the recognised symbol of the Anonymous collective. The images are overlaid with a jingly tune warning that “The NSA is coming to town”. “You better watch out, you better not Skype, you better log out, you better not type, the NSA is coming to town,” the song goes. “You’re making a list, they’re checking it twice, they’re watching almost every electronic device, the NSA is coming to town. “They see when you are sleeping, they hear when you’re awake, they know who you call and who you write, so encrypt for goodness sake. “With Congress in the dark and a clock-and-dagger court, we’re looking for answers and they’re coming up short, the NSA is coming to town.” The video is intended to remind people of government surveillance programmes like PRISM in the US and Tempora in the UK, […]
