Two Romanian women arrested in Kuwait after they were caught soliciting money for sex will be deported.

The two women had recently entered the northern Arabian Gulf country on tourist visas and stayed in a hotel in the vibrant Salmiya area in the capital Kuwait City, a security source said.

The police, alerted about their activities, apprehended them in a pre-dawn operation.

Investigations revealed that the two women used social media to promote themselves and contact potential clients and that each charged KD300 per hour, the source said, Kuwaiti daily Al Rai reported on Tuesday.

The two women were referred to the competent legal authorities ahead of their deportation, the source added.

Last week, Kuwaiti reports said that security authorities arrested several Romanian women after their pictures and video clips promoting their activities in Kuwait were posted on social media.

A security source told Al Anba daily that the women were prostitutes who worked for an international network that sent them to Kuwait.

According to the source, the women who charged $1,000 per hour were deported by the police.

Claims circulating on social media that the women were in Kuwait to record a pornographic movie in public places were denied by the police.

In a statement, the interior ministry said that criminal detectives arrested an international prostitution gang members.

“The vice department received information about some Romanian women in a hotel apartment in Bneid Al Qar who engaged in prostitution, so legal procedures were taken and all suspects were caught in the act,” the statement said.

Kuwait vice police has been actively committed to foiling attempts, mainly by Europeans, to take advantage of the country’s openness to engage in the illegal, but lucrative activities.

Last week, six Filipinas and Nepalese, members of a prostitution circle run by a Filipina, were arrested in Hawally. The suspects were staying in the country under visas issued to domestic helpers.

Their sponsors were summoned for questioning.

In November, the police arrested eight Romanian women and a homosexual who engaged in illegal sexual activities.

They said that clients had to fill in an electronic form and provide a picture of themselves and that they got an answer within 48 hours.

Each woman was charging KD200 per hour.

In June, an undercover operation in Kuwait City nabbed a man and a woman from the Czech Republic on charges of promoting prostitution and online soliciting.

The suspects had arrived separately into the country on tourist visas, but stayed in the same hotel in the capital.

The police reportedly became suspicious about the 23-old man when it was noticed that he did not leave his hotel room for days and that he was receiving many people.

An investigation was launched after the police learned that the Czech man was having sex with his visitors and that he was charging KD150 per hour.

The appointments with the visitors had been scheduled online before his arrival into the country, a security source said.

The Czech woman, 21, had also pre-arranged her schedule online and spent her time with her “friends”, also charging KD150 per hour, the source added.

The police sent two undercover agents to secure evidence that the two foreigners were violating the visa rules and that they were involved in acts of prostitution. Investigators subsequently arrested them.

“The two admitted during their questioning that they engaged in immoral acts and were referred to the competent authorities ahead of their deportation,” the source said.

In May last year, Kuwaiti authorities arrested 83 European women suspected of online soliciting.

The women promoted themselves on social networks and said they wanted 150 dinars (Dh1,817) for illicit relations, security sources said.

The police monitored their moves until they were certain about their illegal activities, arrested them and referred them to the competent authorities.
