Leaving an abusive relationship is never easy. With women being killed as the result of threatening separation becoming a real issue, there is also an increase in child abductions. Abusers tend to flee with the child to inflict more emotional pain on the victim. The fear of not knowing where the child is and what will happen to them immensely increases the distress victims experience.

Gilda Martinez said she was in an abusive relationship for years before finally gathering the courage to leave. She left no stones unturned and filed for a protection order in Aurora, Colorado.

Unfortunately, her ex has absconded with their only child, prompting the police to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Police refuse to take action

The distraught mother has been separated from her daughter, Allyson Castro for almost two months now. She said that the last time she saw her was on August 27. “She’s my everything. I look at these pictures, and I’m like that could have been right now.”

Just a few days before Allyson’s second birthday, her ex-boyfriend picked up the child and never returned. The mother claimed that he did this to hurt her. She said she was scared that he would do something to Allyson to get to her even more.

Aurora police are looking for Adrian Lorenzo Castro, 34. Action as been taken following the arrest warrant that was issued last week for a violation of a custody order.
Martinez said that she could not fathom why it took the police so long to start doing something.
Martinez claimed that he and Castro had a verbal custody agreement. Since he is the paternal figure, the police had to investigate thoroughly before a warrant for his arrest could be issued.

Abduction prevention measures denied

Martinez had tried warning the court a month before Castro taking off with their daughter. However, records show that a judge had denied the motion for Abduction Prevention Measures citing that there wasn’t enough information.

She said that all she wants is her daughter, “all I care about is her.” She said she was scared that Allyson is going to come back and not know who she is.

Law enforcement authorities are not sure if Castro is still in Colorado and are still searching for him. Martinez has claimed that Castro had ties to Mexico. But she is hopeful that he is still in the state and will do the right thing.
