FICTIONAL politician and British Prime Minister Jim Hacker is back. Or will be soon as Yes, Prime Minister comes to life on the Sydney stage.
Penned by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn, who created and wrote every episode of the BBC TV series Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister, the stage version of Yes, Prime Minister premiered in London last year to great acclaim.
The local production stars Philip Quast as the manipulative cabinet secretary, Sir Humphrey Appleby, and Mark Owen-Taylor as the hapless politician Jim Hacker.
The action is set in the context of the global financial crisis and the British government is struggling. The PM is desperately hanging on to power but salvation seems to be at hand with the possibility of a big investment from the oil-rich country of Kumranistan. But life is never easy and the PM is going to need his wits about him if he is to close the deal.
