Theft suspect apprehended after stealing HVAC units

New Castle County Detectives have arrested Charles Jackson, a 38
year-old male who resides in the 100 block of City View Avenue in
the City of Wilmington. He has been charges with two counts of
felony theft after it was discovered that he had removed HVAC units
from two different buildings within the Lancaster court Apartment
complex last month.

On Wednesday, January 18, County Police responded to the complex
for a reported theft of HVAC units. Police learned that one unit
was removed each of the two previous nights. During the course of
the investigation, detectives conducted numerous interviews and
learned that the suspect vehicle was a dark colored SUV with a
yellow light on the roof and had a marking of “Rescue Rangers”.

Detectives ultimately obtained enough information that led to
Charles Jackson being identified as the suspect involved in the
crime. Subsequently, they were then able to substantiate that
Jackson had sold aluminum and copper condenser coils to a local
business that had been cut from large heat pumps within the HVAC
units. A computer inquiry revealed that Jackson was also wanted out
of Philadelphia Police Department and Salem County New Jersey
Police Department.

On February 2, detectives apprehended Jackson and were able to
confirm his involvement in the crimes. He has been charged with two
counts of felony theft. He was arraigned and committed to the
Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $3,000
cash bail.
