The board picked Miller to take on the treasurer role in an organization following Aaron Smith’s resignation last week from the five-person body.
Board secretary Regan Price nominated Miller to be treasure during the 25-minute special meeting held virtually. Board vice president Lance Nichols seconded Price’s nomination.
“I can’t think of anyone better,” Price said of Miller. “He’s the finance man.”
Also during Monday’s meeting, the Weld RE-4 board changed the date of its December meeting to Dec. 12 (from Dec. 5). The board tabled until Dec. 12 ratifying the Clearview Library District board members who were appointed earlier this fall.
Miller is the finance director, water quality platform for the Danaher Corporation in Loveland, according to his LinkedIn page. He was appointed to the board in January following the resignation of board president Jennifer Lieber.
Russ Smart became board president after Lieber’s resignation. Miller’s appointment extends until November 2023 when he’ll be able to run for election.
Smith was elected in November 2021. He submitted his resignation Nov. 13 citing personal and family issues.
The school district is accepting applications for Smith’s seat until Dec. 16. The board plans to interview qualified candidates during a public meeting in early January. The new member will be selected at the conclusion of the interview date, and serve until November 2025.
The Weld RE-4 board declined to ratify the Clearview Library board members until it can learn more about what happened at board of trustees interviews in late September. One of those actions included removing Kendra Adams as president of the board of trustees.
Library trustees are appointed to serve three-year terms with a limit of two-consecutive terms, and the trustees must be approved by the school district board of education and the boards of the town of Windsor and town of Severance, according to information on the library district website.
Price initiated discussion on the library district, saying she would not vote to ratify the trustees members.
“Removing Kendra is not a good decision for us,” Price said of the Weld RE-4 board in her explanation for declining to vote for ratification.
Three incumbent members of the board of trustees applied for second terms in the fall. Trustees president Kendra Adams and alternate Frank Baszler were not selected following interviews conducted by a committee of representatives from town boards in Windsor and Severance, Weld RE-4 and a Clearview Library trustee.
The interview committee was chaired by library trustee Cole Gerstner. The other members were: Smith, as the Weld RE-4 liaison to the trustees; Michelle Duda, a member of the town of Severance town council; and Julie Cline from the town of Windsor town council, according to a Nov. 15 letter from library director Ann Kling to Weld RE-4 Superintendent Michelle Scallon and the board of education.
Treasurer Ronald Dunworth was selected for a second term. Baszler is also the liaison to the library district for the town of Severance.
The committee selected Dunworth to a second three-year term; Cheryl Brown, to a three-year term; and Lisa Gagliardi to a three-year term as an alternate. They begin their terms Jan. 1.
Price said she heard from people about “questionable things” with the interviews. Nichols also expressed discomfort with ratifying the library board members, expressed support for Adams and he suggested tabling the item until next month.
“It feels like Kendra was removed for the wrong reasons or they were politically charged, I don’t know,” Nichols said.
