Acer’s Mini Modular PC Has Lego-Like Blocks That Snap Together
Acer just announced at the press conference, the Revo Build Mini PC, a little modular desktop computer that is made at home. It is a set of PC parts that are stackable and magnetically snap together like Lego blocks, making the swapping of the modular computer’s components and sections quick and easy. After the build-it-yourself pieces are assembled, the pieces create a fully-functional mini desktop.
The Revo Build Mini PC is little less than 5 inches square with an Intel Celeron or Pentium processor along with integrated graphics. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 32GB of solid state storage. I/O devices are located at the unit’s back and sides that includes three USB 3.0, HDMI-out, DisplayPort, Ethernet, SD card slot, and an audio jack.
However, the important port is on the top, which is a little magnetic connector to attach “blocks,” or rectangular black boxes containing other components. The hard drive block (500GB or 1TB) with a USB 3.0 port on the back, a graphics card block and a wireless charger block allows you to rest your phone on top of your PC for charging.
According to Acer, the mini PC will come with a “voice block”, a speaker, microphone, and a “projector block”. Other add-ons will include extra power, storage, and graphics. In addition, a “Wireless Power Bank” will also keep the mini PC functioning without an electrical outlet. Stacking the blocks is extremely easy, as they clip magnetically to the base unit or to each other.
Acer says the Revo Build Mini PC is coming to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in October first for around $225. However, Acer America said the PC will be coming to the U.S. as well. The company said “U.S. prices and availability will be announced closer to launch.” It will come to China in December starting at $315.
