AN al-Qaeda terrorist locked up for 30 years is furious the prison has banned him from using Skype.
Whingeing Rajib Karim, 32, says the free videophone service saves him having to use the jail’s pay phone to call relatives and friends.
The father of two from Newcastle, who is in high-security Frankland Prison, Co Durham, complained: “The international call rates cost a lot and Skype looked like the perfect solution.”
Writing in prisoners’ magazine Inside Time, he added: “When I tried my first call, however, I was told I wasn’t allowed to use Skype.”
Former British Airways software engineer Karim was convicted last March of plotting to blow up a US-bound passenger jet in mid-air.
A prison source said: “He planned an atrocity using his computer skills to send coded messages to al-Qaeda bosses. The last thing he should be given is a computer or free communication.”
