INDIO, CA – Arraignment on felony vehicle theft and identity theft charges is scheduled today for an ex-con found dozing behind the wheel of a stolen car that was stopped at a Palm Springs intersection.
Tristan Pablo, 36, of Palm Springs, also faces misdemeanor counts of possession of burglary tools, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of committing the crimes while out on bail and having a prior felony conviction within the last five years.
He was set to be arraigned Thursday in Indio.
In addition to the eight-count criminal complaint, Pablo is set to be arraigned on previously filed drug possession charges stemming from a February arrest, according to court records.
Pablo was found at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, sleeping in the driver’s seat of a gray 2015 Mercedes C300 at the intersection of Desert View and Escoba drives, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. William Hutchinson. The Mercedes had been stolen Sunday morning from the 600 block of Bedford Drive, the sergeant said.
Pablo was allegedly in possession of several checks believed stolen from various Palm Springs mailboxes, a small amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools.
According to court records, he also has a scheduled pretrial hearing involving yet another February drug possession arrest, and felony settlement conferences stemming from a January mail theft arrest and a December 2015 credit card theft arrest.
He has prior felony convictions for vehicle theft, check fraud, burglary and identity theft, court records show.
