A hacker may be targeting local websites. On Thursday morning, someone took over a local nonprofit organization’s website, and WFTV reporter Tim Barber found out that the hacker may be doing it to get hired.
The Child Rescue Network’s website was created to share information about child abuse and missing children.
“It hurts. I mean, I just don’t see the point of it; we are out there trying to do good things,” said Child Rescue Network CEO Jeff Griesemer.
However, on Thursday morning, Griesemer said the only thing that popped up on the nonprofit’s website was a message from a person who goes by Zikou-16.
The hacker wrote that the website is not secure and to email if they want help securing the site.
“This can’t be a serious marketing campaign for this guy who wants to protect your Internet sites. If it is, he is getting some very bad advice from somebody,” said Griesemer.
WFTV decided to contact the hacker but has not heard back.
Griesemer had his tech people fix the website so it is back online, but he may still contact the police and the hacker to ask why he or she hacked the site.
