DC Fire inspector accepts plea in fraud charges

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — Former D.C. Fire inspector Kimberley Pinkney, who is accused of misusing work credit cards, accepted a plea agreement Monday. Pinkney is charged with second-degree felony fraud for misusing government credit cards. Investigators said Pinkney used gas cards that were intended for fueling up her work vehicle to buy gas for her personal car, as well as other things. The amount was more than $11,000 dollars. PREVIOUS STORY: DC Fire employees investigated for fraud Investigators said the fraud occurred over a three year period. Suspicious activity such as filling up more gas than the vehicle could take and getting gas more than once a day raised red flags. Pinkney could face up to three years and be forced to pay restitution. Terrell McCray, another D.C. Fire employee, is also facing fraud charges. His case is still pending. Pinkney’s sentencing is set for May 5th. Pinkney was arrested in January following an investigation. Officials say she has since resigned from the D.C. Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. The investigation revealed that during July 7, 2011 through Dec. 10, 2014, Pinkney purchased gasoline at three Southeast Washington gas stations on more than 200 occasions.
