Some children and young adults under 30 have been given a break on deportation prosecutions if they meet certain requirements under a new deferred action policy announced on June 15 by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The new policy makes younger people who came to the U.S. when they were children and aren’t older than 30 a lower priority for deportation and removal proceedings. Eligibility is also based on other criteria, like school enrollment, length of residency and a clean criminal record.
