Obesity is a serious public health problem that is increasingly prevalent among Americans. Hectic schedules and lack of energy contribute to unhealthy eating and limited physical activity. However, there are many natural energy packed foods that will allow you to eat on the run
Here are natural ways to increase your energy.
Honey: Did you know that a spoonful of honey could replace your energy drink? This natural sweetener is low on the glycemic index and acts as a time-released muscle fuel during exercise and helps replenish muscles after an extensive workout. Honey can be added to everything from your morning oatmeal to your afternoon tea.
Bananas: Bananas are composed mostly of sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) and fiber, which make this an ideal energy food. Take a banana with you to work or add to your morning cereal (hot or cold) for an extra boost that will keep you going until lunchtime.
Apples: Apples are high in fiber, which take longer to digest, so they’ll give you a more prolonged lift of energy. Apples are great in a fruit salad or alone. However, this popular snack will provide an effective pick-me-up.
Oranges: Oranges are well known for being high in vitamin C. In addition, this tasty fruit is high in potassium and folate, thus allowing it to release energy steadily over time verses giving you a quick sugar rush. Peel and eat an orange whole to benefit from the pectin and fiber in the fruit’s membranes.
