Final day of Black History Month

As we close out Black History Month, Atlanta Free Speech ask that you continue to learn more about the pioneers in our quest for freedom and those who paved for the way for many us to be successful in our current careers. There is much more to be learned about our history that has been destroyed, distorted, and banned from our schools.

Two years ago the United Nations declared 2011 to be The International Year for People of African Descent. Accompanying this decision was the statement by Ban Ki-moon the Secretary-General of the United Nations who said “…we must remember that people of African descent are among those most affected by racism. Too often, they face denial of basic rights such as access to quality health services and education.”

May of us read that statement and know that it is horrible, but we don’t know what we can do about it other than treat everyone we meet how we would like to be treated – equally. But as Blacks we can also teach our children to be more accepting of others while teaching them their history, so that the terrible mistakes that were made in the past are not made again. We must train our kids to be soldiers in this race war we have been fighting for centuries and we must continue to lead the fight.
