Steven B. Schwartz, a neurosurgeon who practiced in Rapid City before leaving the state in 2008, will spend up to 23 months in jail for possessing child pornography.
Schwartz was sentenced today in a Berks County, Pa. courtroom after pleading guilty this summer to one count of possessing child pornography. He was among 13 people rounded up in a child porn sweep in Pennsylvania in the summer of 2014, charged with possessing and disseminating child porn.
Schwartz’s career in South Dakota was marked by controversy. He was sued numerous times, accused of botching spine surgeries. The South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners forced him to undergo additional training.
