Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Teens Face Many Health Risks

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released its first study of gay, lesbian, and bisexual (GLB) teen health. Compared to heterosexuals, these teens face higher rates of sexual assault, physical dating violence, bullying at school, and cyberbullying. In many cases, GLB teens are two or three times more likely to face these issues. The study also found these teens were up to five times more likely to use illegal drugs. In addition, 13 percent said they’d recently skipped school because of safety concerns, and 40 percent said they’ve seriously considered suicide in the past year.
