Killer cops: the slaying of Black men

police-swat-team

Over the last few weeks, there has been outrage over yet another killing of a Black teen, Michael Brown, by a White police officer. White men killing Black men in America is nothing new, although it appears that many White police officers are becoming bolder when it comes to the slaying of Black men. Is this due to the assumption that police officers have the right to use excessive force on an “intimidating” looking Black man?

It seems that common sense and professional judgment no longer exist within the police departments in our communities. Those who vow to protect and serve are the same ones who conveniently forget that bullets aren’t the only way to subdue a Black man. So, when do an officer’s actions to restrain a suspect become criminal? These acts are of a criminal nature when unarmed Black men are dead and the killer cops are fabricating stories for the media and jury, which make them the real perpetrators.

Let’s be honest. Some Whites feel that they are doing this country a great favor by eliminating the problem (Blacks). Many view Blacks as vicious beast and not an equal counterpart, which explains why we are executed like animals. It is my belief that only a coward or an assassin will shoot an unarmed man. Therefore, cops most likely get trigger happy when they are fearful (because they know Black men are naturally more athletic and physically fit and don’t want a beat-down), ignorant, racist or are just cold-hearted individuals. You take your pick.

Our nation is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to stereotypes, civil rights and liberty for those of a darker hue. How can our country defend the slaughter of a Black man by an officer instead of enforcing the law on the cop who pulled the trigger? Simple, Black lives don’t matter in America. If the situation were reversed, the Black man would be locked up first and asked questions later.

We are well aware that the value of a Black life is not that of a White one in these United States, but we are also aware that staying silent on this matter will only cause the death toll to increase. Ergo, our communities must unite and organize to bring about change, justice and ultimately earn respect from our nation. If you remain silent or neutral in situations involving evil and/or injustice, you are not only protecting, but sided with the oppressor.
