Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a Liberian politician and economist. After studying in the United States at Harvard, she became Assistant Minister of Finance then Minister of Finance in Liberia. In 2005, Ellen became the first woman to be elected president of an African state, in elections organized by the UN. In October 2011, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was also ahead during the first round of Liberian elections. On the 7th day of October 2011, she received the Nobel Peace Prize, which she shares with two other women, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman, for their pacifist commitment in favor of male-female equality.
