WATERBORO, Maine — Authorities have arrested a Lyman man they say was operating a sophisticated marijuana growing operation that had almost 1,000 plants in two locations.

Police say 51-year-old Robert Ryder was arrested Wednesday after deputies and federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents raided his home found 184 plants and five pounds of processed marijuana in the garage.

Deputies said evidence in Ryder's house led them to a warehouse in Waterboro where they say they found another 800 plants and five pounds of processed marijuana.

The street value of the marijuana was estimated at $400,000.

Ryder is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Police tell The Portland Press Herald the warehouse was set up for "continuous cultivation." Reminders of when to water the plants and turn on grow lights were posted on walls.
