Christopher Qu, 24, pleaded not guilty to charges of a racially motivated attack on a black high school student and his older brother. A 24-year-old Irvine man pleaded not guilty today to charges stemming from an alleged racially motivated attack on a black teen and his older brother. Christopher Qu, who is of Asian descent, is accused of approaching the 16-year-old student about 12:50 p.m. last Wednesday at Irvine High School while the teen was waiting for a ride from his brother, said Farrah Emami of the Irvine Police Department. A pipe-wielding Qu spewed racial slurs at the boy, who was on campus for sports practice while the school was on spring break, and was advancing on the teen when his 24-year-old sibling drove up, Emami alleged. Qu banged the pipe against several railings as he advanced on the teen, Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez alleged. The brother got out of the car in time to intervene, but Qu allegedly head-butted the man and slammed the pipe against his arm several times.
