Job Description
Responsible for implementing and executing safety programs that effectively controls accident, health, and property loss exposures in the Company. This position may supervise others, including administrative staff and safety coordinator. The candidate should show an ability to lead and direct, plan work schedules, assign or delegate work on a daily basis, develop and mentor employees and take corrective actions when necessary. This position will also have the responsibility for all activities required by workers compensation laws, and corporate policy for the adjustment and mitigation of claims and financial losses to the Company.
The candidate will demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including OSHA, CalOSHA and local guidelines. The candidate must also show an ability, through demonstrated experience, to accomplish the following: conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements; develop, implement and maintain employee training programs; establish and maintain complete safety and training records; and develop, update and manage workplace safety programs, procedures and policies.
Job Duties
- Responsible for assuring safety related regulatory compliance issues are met, as well as the preparation, updating and implementation of company safety policies/standards
- Serves as team leader/chairperson of the company Plant Safety Committee and management safety committee meetings
- Analyzed, prepare and maintain mandatory/regulatory related safety reports and records
- Directs, monitors, and performs accident investigations, safety inspections, and audits
- Conducts driver safety committee meetings in conjunction with the three person driver meetings
- Develops safety training schedule and creates awareness and incentive programs to support safety initiatives
- Administer Workers’ Compensation loss control programs and related reporting requirements
- Direct all safety committee and plant emergency plan related activities
- Coordinate investigations and reporting process as is relates to general liability claims and other plant property/equipment damages/losses
- Oversees employee Return-to-Work Program
- Act as resource to plant management teams regarding all security service operations
- Develop, update and implement security/loss control policies as they relate to employee, visitor, and contractor activities while on plant properties
- Direct safety orientations for new employees; administer plant hearing conservation program and annual audiometric testing, safety training audio visual library; industrial hygiene monitoring and equipment maintenance; hazard communication program (MSDS inventory); plant safety inspections and, quarterly Workers Compensation file reviews with insurance carrier
- Responsible to comply with Food Safety, Food Defense and Food Quality
- Other special projects and duties as assigned
