MAUSTON — A 25-year-old Necedah man authorities say had about 50 files containing child pornography on his computer is facing nine felony counts of possession of child pornography.
If convicted, Jonathan M. Morgan, whose initial appearance in Juneau County Circuit Court is scheduled for Jan. 12, faces a maximum of 225 years in prison. He currently is in the Juneau County Jail pending a $35,000 cash bond set by Juneau County Circuit Judge Paul Curran on Dec. 13.
According to the criminal complaint, which was filed on Wednesday, a state Department of Criminal Investigation special agent used a computer network to locate a residence in Necedah where someone was using a computer to receive images of known child pornography.
On Dec. 10, state and Juneau County authorities served a search warrant on the Necedah home. In a bedroom, they found a laptop computer belonging to Morgan. The computer’s hard drive had more than 100 videos with file names consistent with child pornography, the complaint said.
During an interview with authorities, Morgan said he used the laptop computer to download a lot of pornography. Morgan said he thought he had about 50 files, mostly movies, that contained individuals younger than 18, the complaint said. He said he thought he had about 20 files that featured children 12 or younger.
On Wednesday, Juneau County Circuit Court Judge John Roemer Jr. rejected a motion from Morgan’s attorney to modify the previously set cash bond.
