Synthia SAINT JAMES, who was also commissioned to design the first Kwanzaa Commemorative Stamp released in 1997, will be the guest speaker on the program along with local dignitaries. Dr. SAINT JAMES is a multicultural award winning visual artist, author, educator and speaker.
The Kwanzaa stamp features an African-American woman holding a purple bowl filled with fruits and vegetables, symbolizing the abundance of African first-harvest celebrations. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Kwanzaa holiday (1966-2016) created by Dr. Maulana Karenga to celebrate and reaffirm family, community, and culture. The seven-day holiday is celebrated from December 25th through January 1st.
You may pre-order the Kwanzaa stamp here.
