RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> Two Ontario brothers were arrested in connection to several mail thefts across the Inland Empire, officials said Thursday. Terry Jones, 26, and Tony Jones, 24, were booked April 7 after investigators linked them to more than 250 mail theft victims, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s news release. On March 30, deputies investigated several reports of mail theft in the northeastern neighborhoods of Rancho Cucamonga, officials said. They served two search warrants in two weeks and arrested Tony and Terry Jones on suspicion of mail theft, identity theft and forgery. Investigators found check washing equipment, as well as stolen mail from Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Ontario, Fontana and Claremont during the search, police said. “With the dramatic increase in mail theft, the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department urges residents to use extreme caution when sending or receiving banking or personal information through the mail. Mail thieves use this information to forge checks and open fraudulent banking and credit card accounts,” officials said in the release.
