Ottumwa woman steals dead man’s identity


OTTUMWA IOWA — On January 06, 2011, the Ottumwa Police Department arrested and charged Latricia Marie Stevens, age 30, of 222 East Fifth Street in Ottumwa, on warrants for ongoing criminal conduct (B felony), forgery by credit card (D felony), identity theft (D felony), and forgery (D felony).

Stevens is accused of fraudulently using the identity of Richard Luman (deceased) to obtain a credit card in his name as well as using Luman’s credit cards and writing checks on Luman’s account after his death.  Stevens worked as an in-home caregiver for Luman.

Officers executed a search warrant at Stevens’ residence on January 6, 2010.  During the execution of this warrant, numerous items were seized as evidence after being identified as merchandise possibly purchased with Luman’s credit card.


Stevens is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on $50,000 cash only bond.
