Ropar, October 24
A government primary school teacher was “punished” by the authorities for allegedly molesting over 12 students by transferring him to his own village.
The authorities initially kept sitting on the complaint lodged by parents of victim students of Government Primary School at Rajnagar of Nangal town since October 16. However, today when the complainants reached the school to protest against delay in action against the accused, they were allegedly pressured to withdraw the complaint by the police as well as the school authorities.
A victim’s parent alleged that they were pressured by the authorities to forgive the accused assuring that he would be transferred to some other school. However, the accused was transferred to a school in his own village.
She said her daughter told her about the behaviour of the accused teacher. “She told me that the teacher threatened her not to tell her parents regarding this”.
She said following this her son also told her that he too was molested by the teacher.
School head teacher Manjit Singh said parents of several students had lodged a complaint in this regard on October 16 and he immediately informed about this to Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO) Sudesh Hans who in turn conveyed it to district education officer (Primary) Sham Lal Kainth. He said the BPEO conducted an inquiry into the matter.
Hans said she recorded the statements of students for the next two days and it was confirmed that they were victims of molestation by the said teacher. She said the DEO was informed about it and today the accused was transferred to a school at Swamipur village.
Kainth said action could not be taken against the accused as they were busy with some urgent work and now the accused teacher had been transferred after he had tendered an apology with the parents of victim students. When asked why no police complaint was lodged against the accused teacher, he claimed that the parents of victims didn’t give complaint in writing and spared him in presence of the police.
SHO Pawan Kumar denied that police pressured the parents of victim students not to file any complaint against the accused. He claimed that the parents refused to lodge any complaint in the writing.
