Legal Commentary From a School Sexual Abuse Lawyer
Attorney contributor Jeff Gibson of AbuseGuardian.com helps sex abuse victims and their families seek justice by filing civil lawsuits against sexual predators and negligent third parties. Jeff has offered to share some information on the legal rights of those who have been sexually abused by coaches and other school employees:
Schools and all other workplaces where adults are working with students must prioritize the safety of the children under their watch. Unfortunately, these fields are often targeted by sexual predators, who place themselves in positions of trust and then exploit that trust to commit heinous crimes of sexual abuse against the children they are trusted with.
If a school employee is charged with sex crimes against a student, it’s important to ask if these crimes could have been prevented. Some of these cases only happen due to negligence by school officials – such as ignoring evidence of an inappropriate relationship between the employee and a student. If negligence is found to have been a factor in a sex abuse case, the victim and their parents may have grounds for a lawsuit.
If you or your child is a victim of sexual misconduct by a school employee, you can learn more about your legal rights in a free consultation with one of our experienced sex abuse victim lawyers.
