A community college teacher and suspected member of a right-wing extremist group is in custody in Santa Clara County for allegedly sending threatening letters to the county’s Public Health Officer. Santa Clara County Sheriff’s officials say 55-year-old Alan Viarengo was arrested at his Gilroy home late last week after investigators identified his fingerprint on a threatening letter sent to Public Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody. Viarengo is charged with stalking and threatening a public official in connection with more than 20 profanity-laced letters that reference the Boogaloo movement, which is known for being pro-gun, anti-government, and anti-police. Following his arrest, investigators located more than 100 guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and explosive materials inside his residence.
