The posts come after a ceasefire was announced last month between Israel and terror outfit Hamas, post a 11 day skirmish. The conflict had Israel striking Hamas ‘terror sites’ after the Islamist organization targeted Isaraeli civilians.
TRUTH
The photo is from 2018 when Israeli army detained Palestinian journalist Lama Khater for alleged involvement in Hamas terror activities. She wasn’t sexually abused.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Using reverse-image search, we found a news post titled ‘Israeli army detains Palestinian journalist Lama Khater in dawn raid’ from Middle East Eye, dated July 25, 2018, carrying the same photo.
The burqa-clad woman is identified as Lama Khater and the photo is captioned as ‘Palestinian journalist Lama Khater embraces her son before her arrest by Israeli soldiers in Hebron on Tuesday’.
Digging further, we found another news report from Haaretz titled ‘Israel Arrests Palestinian Blogger Critical of Palestinian Authority for Alleged Hamas Terror Activities’.
As per this report published on July 25, 2018, Khater, the then 32-year-old mother of five from Hebron, praised Hamas for its resistance to Israel.
She had also praised Palestinian shahids (martyrs) and encouraged the struggle against Israel and the demonstrations along the Gaza border, the report mentions.
VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that 2018 photo of a burqa-clad Palestinian blogger is being circulated with false claim of Israeli soldiers abducting and raping Palestinian women.
