Michael Mitteer

OXFORD — A former teacher at Oxford Preparatory School has been charged with 12 counts of indecent liberties with a student, the Granville County Sheriff’s Office says.

Michael Mitteer, 37, of Butner, was terminated from his position at Oxford Preparatory School on Oct. 25 after an investigation. This came after the Granville County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to inappropriate activity between a teacher and student at the school.

Mitteer was issued a $100,000 bail. Anyone with more information is asked to call (919) 693-3213.

In a statement, the school says, “Michael Mitteer, who was hired as a high school English teacher at Oxford Preparatory School in August 2013, was suspended from his employment on Monday 10/24/22 after school administration received an allegation about inappropriate communication with a student. Upon conclusion of an initial investigation on Friday 10/28/22, Mr. Mitteer’s employment at Oxford Preparatory School was terminated.
“The school has fully cooperated with local law enforcement and maintaining a safe environment for our students continues to remain as the highest priority.  In this effort, we encourage the continued use of the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System and reporting to the School Resource Officer — Brad O’Briant (bradobriant@oxfordprep.org).

“In addition, our Student Services Team, including our school social worker and counselor, are ready to assist any student that needs support.”
