A 57-year-old music teacher from Kearny has been charged with sexual assault by sexual contact of a child during lessons, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.
Valladares, of Belgrove Avenue, was arrested Tuesday by Lyndhurst police. He was also charged with one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child who is under 13 years old.
Authorities say Valladares, who provides private lessons and does not work for the Kearny school district, engaged in the sexual contact on multiple occasions while instructing the child in Lyndhurst.
Musella said the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information from the Lyndhurst Police Department on June 17 that Valladares had engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with the child. The prosecutor’s office’s Special Victim’s Unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department initiated an investigation.
