The New York Institute for Special Education had a Halloween celebration for its students.

The Bronx school’s Halloween Spooktacular was pirate themed. With accessible games and activities, the event provided fun for special needs students who have limited options for Halloween celebrations.

“A lot of the times those events are not adapted for our students who are blind or visually impaired. So not only is this in their school, it’s free, and it’s also adapted to their needs,” said social studies teacher David Nora.

Throughout the day, elementary to middle and high school students took part in tactile activities that challenged their disabilities and taught them to rely on their senses for support.

The school said they hope to create more fun holiday experiences for the students in the future.
