Abilene police went to arrest one man Monday but wound up taking two men to jail.
When officers arrived at Texas WorkForce Center to arrest Justin Barnes on charges of sexually assaulting a child, Barnes’ father, Michael Lovelace, began yelling and cursing at police.
He began to fight with officers as they attempted to arrest his son. Barnes was arrested on second-degree felony charges, and Lovelace was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and retaliation. Both were taken to Taylor County Jail.
Neither had posted bond by Tuesday evening.
Also Monday, two people were injured in a three-vehicle accident one mile south of View on U.S. Highway 277 around 6:40 p.m.
According to Trooper Sparky Dean with the Texas Department of Public Safety, all three vehicles were southbound when the first vehicle pulled onto the shoulder. After allowing the second vehicle to pass, the driver attempted a U-turn, and turned into the path of the third vehicle, a U-Haul moving van. The van hit the first car in the driver’s side door.
DPS reported that the driver and passenger of the first vehicle were transported to the emergency room at Hendrick Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
The driver and passenger of the U-Haul van were not injured.
