Phetchabun musician Krit Buddeejin was formally charged on Monday after being detained under martial law at the 11th Infantry Regiment for allegedly disseminating a fake Royal Household Bureau statement on His Majesty the King’s health. Mr Krit, who was arrested in Phetchabun province on Feb 4, was handed over to Pol Maj Gen Siripong Timula, commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TSCD), and formally charged with lese majeste under Section 112 of the Criminal Code and with violating the Computer Crimes Act. Pol Lt Col Prawut Thawornsiri, the police spokesman, said Mr Krit was informed of his rights after being charged. He said Mr Krit admitted to posting the fake Royal Household Bureau statement but denied having compiled it. Court approval would be sought to further detain the suspect pending further investigation in line with the Criminal Procedures Code. As for Niran Yaowapa, the webmaster of ASTV Manager, a news website, Pol Lt Gen Prawut said a warrant had been issued for his arrest for posting the fake statement on the website.
