(RTTNews) – An anti-Israeli activist, believed to be a Saudi, broke into the credit cards data of some 15,000 Israelis, the Bank of Israel confirmed on Tuesday.
The hacker broke into the sites of Israeli online companies, took the details of transactions made, and published them in a file on a site called PasteBay on Monday night, reports said.
A DPA report said the activist, who identified himself as 0xOmar and wrote he was a member of the hackers group Anonymous, initially claimed 400,000 Israelis were affected.
In a statement, the Bank of Israel said clients of three credit card companies — Visa-Cal, Isracard and Leumi Card — were affected. The bank, which has launched an investigation into the cyber attack, urged all Israelis to carefully check their online or printed credit card bills.
