A STALWART of Humberside Police, Sergeant James Main has been witness to a host of changes to the force during his years of service. Now, faced with major restructuring that will reduce the number of officers in the region, it would be easy for him to feel sceptical about serving the people of North Lincolnshire. But, quite to the contrary, he feels confident that the public will see “key benefits” thanks to a particular piece of equipment he and his colleagues have been armed with. This quiet confidence comes from the introduction of mobile technology for officers, which Sergeant Main, pictured, says will mean better “visibility” and huge amounts of time saved. These laptops, which double up as tablets, mean that officers can check and update police systems while out and about. For example, an officer called to a burglary could update police logs and carry out administrative tasks while they are with the victim – rather than having to return to the station.
