Shirley Jackson (born 1946) is the former head of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where she reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to public health and safety. She is the first female African American to receive a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Jackson’s outstanding leadership in education, science, and public policy demonstrates the capability of women to be leaders in the field of science.
