South Bend man faces federal charges in ‘sextortion’ case

Federal charges have been filed for a South Bend man posing as a teen online to get naked pictures of an under-aged girl.

Jason Strell, 38, has been charged in a four-count indictment with two counts of enticement for the production of child pornography, one count of extortion using interstate communication, and once count of accessing child pornography.

Federal officials say Strell, posing as a 17-year-old boy in a chat room, convinced a minor to send him naked pictures of herself. When she did, he asked for more, and threatened to post the pictures online if she refused.

Police were able to track down the cell phone through subpoenas and arrested Strell. They also found naked photos from other females convinced of his chat room alias.
