Prentice Powell is a spoken word artist that uses poetry to discuss and bring to the forefront issues that address race, economics and consumerism in America. In a thought-provoking piece entitled, ‘The System,’ Powell challenges the Black community to finally see the candid view of how we are raising our youth. In addition to exposing specific truths of American society, ‘The System’ is entertaining, and Prentice’s delivery and performance are most intriguing.
“If you can’t brag about how many women you have or the $200 denim on your butt, you are worthless … And as long as your kids have Jordans on their feet, it’s okay if they have to eat Top Ramen for a week,” -Prentice Powell, ‘The System’
