VERIZON FOUNDATION SUPPORTS EFFORTS TO STOP BULLYING

The community is invited to the November 15 San Bernardino City Unified Board of Education meeting to celebrate the partnership between the District, Children’s Resources, Inc. and the Verizon Foundation.

For the second year, the Verizon Foundation has provided funding for Children’s Resources, Inc. to hold anti-bullying workshops for District parents. Last year, the Verizon Foundation donated $4,000. This year, the foundation awarded Children’s Resources, Inc. $20,000 to provide its Bully Proof workshops at the District’s Family Resource Center and Serrano and Curtis Middle Schools.

An important part of the Bully Proof workshops is helping parents and students understand the three types of people that make bullying possible: the bully, the bullied, and the bystander. The workshops also provide strategies for standing up to bullies and information on cyber bullying and what motivates people to become bullies.

Workshops were held earlier this month at Curtis Middle School. The first Serrano Middle School workshop is scheduled for November 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. More workshops will begin January 19, 2012, at the Family Resource Center.
