A teacher who works with autistic students at the Etta J. Wilson Elementary School near Newark has been charged with second-degree child abuse, according to state police.
Anne Gullo, 52, turned herself in to police on Monday after they got a warrant for her arrest.
A week earlier, an administrator at the Delaware Autism Program had called the state police to report that a 6-year-old student had been assaulted by his teacher on Oct. 16.
Gullo, of Newark, had pushed the boy, who then fell and hit a bookcase, according to police. He had a minor injury to his back.
Gullo was arraigned at the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $500 unsecured bail, according to police.
