Man shopped with 11 counterfeit credit cards, Miramar police say

Michael Silvene spent more than seven minutes shuffling among checkout lanes allowing other customers to go ahead of him, but Miramar police say he wasn’t being courteous. He allegedly was waiting for the crowd to clear so he could shop with counterfeit credit cards. Silvene, 28, of Miami, is facing 13 charges for possessing 11 altered credit cards, jail records show. Two Miramar police detectives happened to be in the Wal-Mart at 1800 S. University Dr. about 5 p.m. Wednesday investigating an unrelated case when the store’s loss prevention officer directed their attention to Silvene. The detectives watched as video surveillance cameras followed Silvene. He was pacing between lanes 18 and 19 with a Wal-Mart bag over his shoulder, looking around in a suspicious manner, according to the arrest report. They zoomed in on his hands and saw several gift cards in the bag he was holding. He was seen picking up a pack of chewing gum and letting customers pass him in line while he talked on a cellphone, the report stated.
