VALLEJO, Calif. — Two Vallejo police officers were injured while arresting suspects at two different incidents during the weekend, police said Sunday.

At about 8:35 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Tamalpais Drive on a trespassing report. The resident was driving home when she saw a black Honda in her driveway and a few people in her home, police said.

She then drove off and called police.

Upon arrival, officers saw a car matching the descriptions on Parkview Terrace and Tuolumne Street. The resident confirmed that the car was the one that she saw on the driveway, police said.

Officers spoke to the three occupants of the car, and when trying to detain them, the driver, Randy Paringit, allegedly became violent, and lunged at one officer, police said.

Paringit, 31, punched the officer in the throat and ran from the scene onto Power Drive, police said.

An officer managed to catch up to him and tackled him to the ground. During the struggle, Paringit allegedly took the officer's "impact weapon."

Another officer Tasered Paringit to subdue him, and he was eventually arrested after medical clearance from a local hospital, police said.

Paringit is a transient with the last known address in Los Angeles, police said. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and under the influence of drugs, police added.

The car's other two occupants were also arrested for being under the influence of drugs. They were identified as Raymond Balais, 20, and Lydell Deguzman, 30, both of Vallejo.

The assaulted officer sustained minor injuries, police said.

Police are also still investigating Sunday whether the three men were related to the earlier burglary.

About 24 hours later, at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday, officers stopped a car for traffic violations on Gateway and Griffin drives.

One officer saw open containers of alcohol inside the car, police said. The driver was identified as Lavelle Phillips, 24, of Sacramento, police said.

When the officer tried to detain him, Phillips allegedly jumped from the car and charged the officer, causing both the officer and himself to fall on the ground, police said.

He then punched the officer several times during the struggle, before another officer Tasered him, police said. Phillips was eventually detained.

The officers also found an "extremely high amount of heroine, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, Ecstasy and marijuana in his possession," police said.

He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and arrested. The officer also sustained minor injuries, police said.

All of the arrested men were booked into Solano County jail. Copyright 2012 The Times-Herald
