By Ed White Associated Press DETROIT — An FBI agent who trained with a southern Michigan militia says he was concerned about the leader's knowledge of explosives.
Steve Haug (HOWG) testified Friday in the trial of seven people charged with conspiring to rebel against the government. He posed as a truck driver in 2009 to join the Hutaree (hoo-TAH'-ree) and secretly record conversations.
Most conversations heard by the jury Friday involved the agent and militia leader David Stone. Haug says he was "shocked" to hear Stone talk about the use of certain copper wire in explosives. He says he was concerned about Stone's knowledge of explosive powder.
The government claims militia members were plotting to kill a police officer as part of a broader rebellion. Defense lawyers say prosecutors have greatly exaggerated what's heard on the recordings. Copyright 2012 Associated Press
