This week, we are highlighting the book, Olympic Black Women, which profiles 25 African-American women who have won Olympic medals. The Olympic games are considered the highest measure of human physical ability and strength, yet the achievement of African-American women who have competed over the years are often overlooked. This book discusses modern and ancient Olympic games as well as the struggles that Black women had to endure. It was not until 1932 that Black women were allowed to participate in the Olympic games and since that time more and more Black women have been competing and now dominate in areas such as gymnastics, track and field, and tennis.
