ORLAND, Calif. — With concern high over a rash of counterfeit money showing up in the last several weeks, Orland police have arranged for merchants and private citizens to attend free training on how to spot bogus bills.
Two 90-minute classes will be offered on Friday, one at 10:30 a.m., the other at 1:30 p.m., at the Carnegie Center, 912 Third St.
Interim Orland Police Chief J.C. Tolle said Paul Kahn, a Secret Service agent from Sacramento, will discuss the security features of legal currency and how to spot counterfeit money.
Tolle said multiple suspects have successfully passed counterfeit bills at Orland businesses in the last several weeks. There has been one arrest.
Anyone planning to attend the training is asked to call Orland police at 865-1616 by Tuesday to reserve a place.
Businesses are especially encouraged to have owners or employee representatives attend.
